The ongoing involvement of OeIJ in current developments in science and research is assured through the scientific advisory board which was created in 2004. The 15 members of the board represent an interdisciplinary selection of renowned researchers from Austrian as well as international backgrounds.

The principal task of the scientific advisory board is to counsel the institute on future research. This involves advice on the setting of long-term priorities regarding purpose and content of youth research, on the development of large-scale research projects, and on general strategic decisions for research activities outside the university.
