On the national and international level, ÖIJ is cooperates primarily with organizations involved in syndicates and open youth work, as well as with other scientific institutions investigating special topics. Internationally, ÖIJ participates strongly in two scientific research communities, the European Group for Integrated Social Research (EGRIS) and the International Sociological Association (ISA).
