Brief Description of the Project:
The challenges posed by the increasing individualization processes that confront young people in the rapidly changing societies of Europe raise certain questions, which shall be answered by the Up2Youth research project: How do young people's decisions and strategies reflect changing social structures? What conditions within existing inter-generational relationships are responsible for the integration and individualization as "active citizens" with regard to social change? What policies enable young people to actively impact social change?
These leading questions are researched within three major fields that represent young people's situation in Europe.
- Young parenthood: Questions of gendered individualization and reproductive challenges
- Minority youth: Transitions to work and the challenge of socio-economic and socio-cultural integration of ethnic and minority youth
- Youth participation: Civil participation as a challenge for "active citizenship"
The OeIJ focuses on the topic of civil participation as a challenge for "active citizenship".
