Brief Description of the Project:
This project intends to contribute to the second international Self-Report-Delinquency Study. This international study was conducted in approximately 25 European nations (and three US states) through standardized questionnaires asking students to self-report delinquencies. In Austria, 3,000 pupils in 7th through 9th grade were chosen from selected schools of all school types, situated in a major city, a medium sized city and five small towns all over Austria. The questionnaire asked the students to specify all offenses they had committed concerning property, violence, drugs and other unlawful activities, including youth-specific problem areas such as absenteeism and alcohol consumption. These types of youth delinquencies were correlated with social, family-related, and school-specific variables in accordance with the theoretical framework of the study. The Austrian study was conducted by the OeIJ in co-operation with the Institut für Kriminalsoziologie.
